Hi Techies,

Can you please tell me what is the all about this error? I'm getting this event in failover clustering, post which my VMs are going into pending state.

[RES] Physical Disk: PnpNotifyCSVRemoval: device \\?\STORAGE#CSVVolume#{XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX}#{XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX}

[RES] Physical Disk: PnpRemoveVolume: volume removal: ignoring cluster pseudo volume\?\STORAGE#CSVVolume#{XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX}#{XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX}

Event 24, SMBWitnessClient

I have setup a File Share Witness for my cluster, which seems to be functioning properly. I am able to live migrate storage/vms and simulate failover.  I took a look at my event log and saw that every 1-2minutes an error for SMBWitnessClient occurs.

Exact Error:

Witness Client failed the share move request for \\cfbstore\FSW with error (Element not found.)

Source: SMBWitnessClient

Event ID: 24

Level: Error

User: Network Service

I tried searching for this error but came up with nothing.  Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Also the File Share Witness is set to Continuously Available and I have double checked permissions..

How to delete Cluster Network 1 in Hyper-V cluster?

Hi folks!

So I added a few 10Gbe cards to our 4 node HV 2012 R2 cluster. I connected two of them to the switches and almost immediately I saw this weird "Cluster Network 1" show up in Failover Cluster Manager.

Screenshot

I have since then disconnected the network cables, but it still shows up and the event logs keep saying that "Cluster Network 1" has failed.

Is there a way to delete this "Cluster Network 1"?

I have already set "Do not allow cluster network communication on this network". It is not used in the "Live Migration Settings".  Rebooted nodes. Why is it still there!!?? Pulling my hair out here! LOL.

PS: the closest I could find on the 'net is this old thread:

Hi guys, i have a case here:

my Hyperv 2008r R2 clusters use 8 nodes HP Blade Proliant 460c G7  to form up  and storage is HP EVA.  My CSV are 2TB each.

Recently, my cluster keep receiving errors lost connection to storage and restored.

Task Category: Cluster Shared Volume

The listed message is: Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume2' ('HyperV1 Disk') is no longer available on this node because of 'STATUS_MEDIA_WRITE_PROTECTED(c00000a2)'. All I/O will temporarily be queued until a path to the volume is reestablished.

Or

Ownership of cluster disk "Lun012_xxxxx" has been unexpectedly lost by this node.  Run the validate a configuration wizard to check your storage configuration

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2522766  <-- this didnt work as my mpio.sys version is 6.1.7601.21953

Whenever it occured, my Virtual machine will goes down and require reboot for windows and Linux.  Please advise any way to fine tune this.  Thank you.

Cluster CSV had errors, failed over, I see two volumes appear under CSV one is "unknown"

So, we've been having issues with one of our clusters. Yesterday in the evening when no one was working it seems like a bunch of VMs went down. I found some errors in a couple event logs that show it seems the CSV failed but I can't find any indication as to why. My storage appliance has no record of any problems at that time, and I can't find any other possible reasons apart from a problem within the cluster.

All six nodes are running up to date Server 2012 R2, and are Managed by SCVMM 2012 R2 running off a virtual machine hosted by another cluster. My storage is a Tegile ZEBI unit, and I've thin provisioned 20TB of disk space. Disk is accessed by iSCSI on separate NICs and separate switches from other normal cluster/VM traffic.

Below are the errors, and a screenshot of an "unknown" volume listed under my CSV, seems odd? In cluster Failover manager, under storage\Disks after selecting my CSV, in the bottom pane I see two volumes listed:

In cluster manager, I found this error:

Log Name:      System
Source:        Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering
Date:          2014-12-16 6:41:33 PM
Event ID:      5120

Description:
Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume 1' ('CSV') has entered a paused state because of '(c000000b5)'. All I/O will temporarily be queued until a path to the volume is reestablished.

I went to the node who owned the CSV, and in the event log I found this error:

Log Name:      System
Source:        Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering
Date:          2014-12-16 6:48:22 PM
Event ID:      1230

The cluster will try to automatically recover by terminating and restarting the Resource Hosting Subsystem (RHS) process that is running this resource. Verify that the underlying infrastructure (such as storage, networking, or services) that are associated with the resource are functioning correctly.

Then this error:

Log Name:      System

Event ID:      1146

Then this error:

Hi,

I have setup two Windows 2012 R2 virtual web servers that sit in Microsoft Network Load Balancing cluster. This cluster is configured using Multicast Mode.

On firewall level, this cluster IP is NAT to a public IP which allows Internet access. I can ping to either server or any other server that sits on the same subnet. However, I can't ping to Google DNS 8.8.8.8 from either of the web server.

Server 1: 192.168.5.2

Server 2: 192.168.5.3

Cluster IP: 192.168.5.4 NAT to a public IP

Has anyone encountered this before?

Kindly advise.

Thanks,

Shawn

Clussvc.exe CPU spike windows 2012 r2

Hello,

Does anyone experience CPU spike on windows cluster.exe (windows 2012 R2, SQL Server 2014 all updates installed).

The sympton is every a couple of minutes, cpu spikes and it is driven by cluster.exe. The environment only have SQL Server running, no SCOM etc...

Microsoft is following this case with me now, but so far no progress yet, just wondering if you have the same issue?

Thanks,

Albert

Node and File Share Majority : The user name or password is incorrect

$

Hi all,

I have a file share which I want to use as the file share witness for my Microsoft Cluster (Node majority now)

Error is :

An error was encountered while modifying the quorum settings.
Your cluster quorum settings have not been changed.
There was an error configuring the file share witness '\\domainame\QW'.
Unable to save property changes for 'File Share Witness'.
The user name or password is incorrect

The share has Modify permission on the Share and NTFS for the computer accounts of the nodes.

The only catch is that the Nodes and the server hosting the File share are on different networks (Across ACLs) - though SBM (TCP & UDP 445) is open between the networks to the file share server and vice verse.

Any suggestions is much appreciated ?

Ramu

Issue accessing Shares via alias

Hi We have a two node file share cluster running windows 2012 r2 standard.

we have configured two aliases in DNS(Cname) to access the clustered shares. the aliases point to the host record for the cluster resource (fileserver)

i have added the aliases in the cluster parameters using :

Get-ClusterResource <resource name>|Set-ClusterParameters Aliases "Alias1,Alias2"

Below is the issue description:

  • Fileshares can be opened via alias 1 from all computers, irrespective of the OS.
  • Fileshares can be opened via Alias 2 only from windows 7 , windows 2008, windows 2008R2 and windows 2012 servers. we get an error while trying to open the shares from windows 2003 server:

"\\Sharename is not reachable . you might not have the permission to use this network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

Logon Failure: the target account name is incorrect."

please note: the "Alias2" which we are using was a computer added to domain earlier, which is shutdown now as the shares are migrated to the new server. we have  removed its A record from DNS and replaced with Cname of the same name, but the computer object is still present in the AD".

please help on this as we are stuck with this issue.

thanks  in advance.

SQL Clustered Servers

I’ve installed server 2012 R2 with the Failover Cluster Role and have configured two network interfaces.  On the heartbeat NICs for each server I see a “Microsoft Failover Cluster Virtual Adapter Performance Filter” which is not enabled for the NIC.  Should I enable this for the heartbeat NICs for the servers in my cluster?

any and all thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Remove a volume

Hi,

I've made a mistake during an operation (using Veritas Storage Foundation) and would like to remove a volume from a cluster.

Veritas actually doesn't allow me to remove the volume into its interface until i remove it from the cluster.

Do you know if i can do it (without bringing any ressource offline)?

Thanks

Server 2012 - CSV & RAID Advice

Ok, Dell VRTX server with 2 blades. Primary storage will be 10 x 600Gb 10k SAS drives.

Planning on running Hyper-V cluster to host primary file server, print server, SQL, Sharepoint etc for mid sized Company (70 users). None of them are particularly heavily utilised.

If I configure a RAID5 with hotspare, this gives capacity of 8 usable drives.

Is there any advantage to creating multiple CSV's? Its all the same drives and spindles, right?

From what I've read on-line, advice seems to be that you should create CSV for VM's and additional one(s) for data storage.

But surely there is an advantage in having 9 spindles with the data striped across them in terms of performance? rather than splitting the drives in to multiple RAID5 sets...

Any advice, suggestions, ideas gratefully appreciated :)

Scripting cluster failover for patching (2008 server not R2)

We have a number of Windows 2008 (not R2) servers running sql.  We currectly patch using a third party tool (Shavlik) and would like to automate the process.  eg. failover, patch, failback, check status.  I started looking at Powershell but it appears the cluster modules are for 2008R2 and not plain 2008.  Anyone have a solution?  Thanks.
