Domain rename and Hyper-V Cluster

Hello,

I'm planning an Active Directory Domain rename. We have also a cluster with Hyper-V 2016, I've tried to search about this operation but somewhere it seems that's supportted and somewhere they says that's not supported and I need to rebuild the cluster.

Has anyone some experience with this? what is the correct path?

Thanks for your help

2016 vs 2012 failover clustering - test disks

I'm looking for a logistical answer, or maybe I'm doing something wrong.

While setting up a 2012 failover cluster, it would take the disks offline and test them. I'm setting up a 2016 cluster and the disk tests are "Not Applicable". Both the 2012 and 2016 clusters are VMs and the hardware is configured identically.

Automatic cluster failover on disk write problems (ID 50)?

$

Hello,

I am currently running a 2k2R2 cluster with shared storage, mostly as a file share. Yesterday the HBA on one of the nodes went bad and showed intermittent connectivity. I would have guessed Windows Clustering Service to detect this loss of disk and automatically migrate the affected services to another, unaffected node. Instead it didn't raise any warning on the cluster or client side, continued to present the defunct share to our users and still allowed full access. For writes I found a Event 50 (Lost Delayed-Write Data) as a warning in the nodes local system log. The modifications seem to have never reached the disk, so while the user thought he successfully saved a file it actually went to /dev/null. I've seen a similar behaviour on another cluster in the past.

Is there a way to tell clustering to fail over on such failures? While I probably could get it to react how I would like to see by disabling write cache this doesn't really seem like a good idea performancewise.

Run different version VMs on Hyper-V Cluster and Dell R620 run Windows Server 2019

Hey Guys,

I need your help to explain my questions:

1) Dell PowerEdge R620 is not certified for Windows 2019, but my hardware meets system requirements. Will this do?

2) Do I have to setup the cluster before or after the iSCSI deployment?

3) Also, when I have a physical server running WS 2019 (Node A), later I add a new physical server running WS 2019 (Node B) on the network. Is it possible Node B to join Node A cluster ?

I hope you guys can help.

Failover Cluster - Failed to access remote regitry on 'SERVERNAME'

Hello community,

I am trying to create failover cluster on Windows Server 2016, I create 3 virtual server for testing, in one of the server I set up the DNS and I tested and is fine. But when I try to "Validate Configuration" on the Failover Cluster Manager and enter the name of the server, it displays the following error messages:

"Failed to access remote registry on ''sql02.TESTDOMAIN.COM". Ensure that the remote registry service is running, and have remote administration enabled"

I enabled the Remote registry service and enabled the remote administration usgin gpedit.msc onComputer Configuration>Administrative Templates>Network>Network Connections>Windows Firewallenabling Domain Profile>Windows Firewall: Allow remote administration exception, then I checked the server manager to see if the remote management is enable on the 3 servers and it is.

This is my first time I am doing a this, so at this moment I am a little bit lost since I try everything that I read on the web.

Any advice o guidance would be really helpul.

Permission problem updating Functional Level 2019

I just finished upgrading my 2012 R2 servers to 2019, I have a failover cluster configured on H1, the functional level says 9.8, I want to raise it but get a permission error.

Update-ClusterFunctionalLevel : You do not have administrative privileges on the cluster. Contact your network
administrator to request access.
    Access is denied

+ get-cluster NYFB_Cluster | Update-ClusterFunctionalLevel

    + CategoryInfo          : AuthenticationError: (:) [Update-ClusterFunctionalLevel], ClusterCmdletException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : ClusterAccessDenied,Microsoft.FailoverClusters.PowerShell.UpdateClusterFunctionalLevelCo
   mmand

I have tried adding full access even to everybody and still get this error, the problem I'm now having is I can't join the other host to the cluster, it was running for about an hour and I did updates, which I've since removed still can't join the other node.

So I have two issues

1) Can't raise functional level because of permission.

2) Can't join another node to cluster. When I tried to create a new cluster with only this node the functional level was 10.3. That's why I'm assuming it will not join the 9.8 cluster.

here is error I get adding to cluster:

* Cluster service on node NYFBH2 did not reach the running state. The error code is 0x5b4. For more information check the cluster log and the system event log from node NYFBH2. This operation returned because the timeout period expired.
* The server 'NYFBH2.****.local' could not be added to the cluster.
An error occurred while adding node 'NYFBH2.****.local' to cluster 'NYFB_Cluster'.

Windows file server clustering - physical 2008 Ent R2 and 2012 or 2016 VMware VM

I currently have two physical Windows 2008 Ent R2 file servers clustered. I plan on either adding a third VMware Windows server into the cluster or replacing one of the physical servers with a VM. Due to lack of drive space, etc upgrading the physical server(s) to 2012 or 16 will be a challenge - 2019 out of the question. I've been searching around to determine which OS versions are cluster-able?

These servers are also DC.

change possible nodes of cluster role

Hi,

I have a 2 node windows failover cluster on windows server 2012r2 (NOT a hyperv cluster).

I am interested in changing a specific role to only be able to run on a specific node (I know that in a 2 node cluster this might not make a lot of sense but it is suppose to be a temporary thing)

however, using the GUI I am only able to view and change the preferred nodes and I interested in changing the possible nodes. strangely, I was unable to find a answer that worked on google.

anyone able to assist me please? (GUI or\and powershell are both good options)

Hi every one I installed two terminal servers host A and host B, then I installed NLB features on this servers and created cluster with name RDS.test.local, NLB work properly in my test lab I have 5-6 users if I deploy this in my prodaction with 60 users will it work normally? How many connection NLB can accept to cluster?

Public IPv6 address

Hi

I've been trouble shooting an issue with a hyper V failover cluster and I've been skimming through the network config for the VM hosts.

It's a 2 node cluster and comprised of 2 X dell FC630's in an FX-2 chassis. The only difference in config that I can see is that when the NICS presented to the OS are placed into a NIC team, the team get an IPv6 that is not a local link address (fe80).

The other node does however and this is what i would expect as the VLAN associated with getting out of the local subnet is not configured.

One of the outcomes is that this cluster network is appearing incorrectly in my cluster configuration with the wrong address.

IPv6 VM Property in Virtual Machine Manager

Hello All,

I have a 3 node 2016 Hyper-V Failover Cluster running 20 VMs. When looking at the Networking tab at the bottom of VMM (not the individual VM network adapter settings), five of the VMs display IPv6 addresses starting with fe80::. Four of the VMs are using Dynamic adapters, one is using static. All VMs are also Windows Server 2016. Four of the VMs are on the same node, one VM on a second node. There are a total of 4 Virtual Networks, but DNS, AD, etc, exists only on the "Management" Virtual Network.

I assume these are link local addresses and not in use. I don't understand why all the VMs do not exhibit this same behavior.

There are no IPv6 addresses in DNS, I just looked. For every NIC in every VM, I unchecked the box labeled "Register this connection's address in DNS" box in the Advanced DNS properties page of the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCPIP/IPv6) protocol.

I am wondering how this happened and how to get rid of the IPv6 addresses in VMM.

Thanks,

Vint

Hyper-V 2012 Live migration fails, quick migration works

Hi.

My Environment is two 2012 Hyper-V (Datacentre) servers, clustered. These servers have different hardware but the network cards are named the same. When I do a quick migration it works perfectly but when I do a live migration it fails both ways with the errors below. Cluster validation does not show significant errors.

I have had a look at this article but cannot figure out how to check the spn's or get this fixed. Any help will be appreciated thanks.

Possible clients for Infrastructure Scale-Out File Server in Windows Server 2019?

$

Windows Server 2019 has a new Scale-Out File Server role named Infrastructure, which lets us provide continuously available shares from volumes in a hyper-converged S2D cluster. We can then use these volumes to store vhdx files from a separate Hyper-V Failover Cluster.

Described here:

https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Failover-Clustering/Scale-Out-File-Server-Improvements-in-Windows-Server-2019/ba-p/372156

Created like this:

Add-ClusterScaleOutFileServerRole -Cluster MyCluster -Infrastructure -Name InfraSOFSName

I understand that the S2D cluster that provides such shares need to be a Windows Server 2019 cluster, but can earlier clients use these shares?

Specifically: Can I run a Windows Server 2016 Hyper-V failover cluster and store the vhdx files on the new infrastructure shares?

Server 2019 Failover Cluster

I am setting up a Hyper-Converged Infrastructure and I see several old posts about not putting the DC on the failover cluster as it requires AD services to start itself. However those old posts refer to Windows Server 2012 and prior. We have Server 2019 Datacenter so is this now a possibility?

I have a question about the compatibility with Server 2012 std and 2016 dtc.

i have 1 ARR without NLB who is running on a Server 2012 std. i also have a ARR without NLB who is running on a Server 2016 dtc.

Is it possible to set uphigh availability and scalabitlity between both servers? trying to follow the guide below.

Have uninstalled failover clustering from server role before destroying cluster. when i try to bring disk online in disk manager which allocated for cluster, getting error below.

"The specified disk or volume is managed by microsoft failover clustering component. the disk must be in cluster resource status must be online to perform this operating"

Post uninstalling failover clustering from server2, have destroyed the cluster through server1. (had configurred cluster with server 1 and 2 only)

Have also tried uninstalling failover clusterring on both the servers and checked, still unable to bring reserved disk.

Kindly help me to bring disk online.

Replication high watermark

HI,

Can anyone help me undestand Replication water mark and how this works ?

is that same as high water mark vector in replication ?

Switch that becomes isolated. Node goes offline.

Hello

I have four nodes that is configured as a set switch with two nic ports.

To this I have two switches.

If one switch fails all node remains online but if one switch becomes isolted but is fully functional the node doesn´t understand that it should failover. So the nodes that is active on that switch goes offline.

How do I solve this

Thankyou
