How do i migrate or join a 2008R2 2 node cluster to a different domain?

I have a 2 node cluster (not hyper-v) in windows 2008 R2 AD on an HP Proliant DL380 G6 server with an attached MSA2012sa DAS storage where the resources recite.  Resources are mainly data, no apps.

I need to change to a different AD domain.  The IP segment/address of the cluster & storage will not change, only the dns IPs will change.

Please advice the order I should do things:

Thank you.

Enabling Clustering post hyper-v setup

I have 2 Windows 2012 r2 servers with hyper-v enabled.

Currently they are using their on board storage for their vm's.

We have just bought a SAN & sas cards which I've installed.

I would like to have one raid 10 volume which the servers share for vm storage.

I'm following this article here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj822937(v=ws.11).aspx

Since hyper-v is already in use I received an error about virtual switches that have been setup on one server but not the other. I tried creating the same switches on each server put setting their network to internal only but that throws up this error:

Network interfaces HYPERV-01.domain.com - vEthernet (HYPERV-02-SW-03) and HYPERV-02.domain.com - vEthernet (HYPERV-01-SW-03) are on the same cluster network, yet address fe80::c445:7cd2:25ce:8885%101 is not reachable from fe80::c05b:61e5:65d3:1ed9%103 using UDP on port 3343.
Network interfaces HYPERV-02.domain.com - vEthernet (HYPERV-01-SW-03) and HYPERV-01.domain.com - vEthernet (HYPERV-02-SW-03) are on the same cluster network, yet address fe80::c05b:61e5:65d3:1ed9%103 is not reachable from fe80::c445:7cd2:25ce:8885%101 using UDP on port 3343.

Interesting it only mentions SW-03 which is our backup vlan, SW-01 and 02 are not mentioned.

Not sure how to fix this error?

Making Windows 2012 DC HA with Hyper-V and Exchange 2010

Hello,

We are currently running a Windows 2012 DC with Hyper-V running a Exchange 2013 in a RAID-1 and RAID-10.

I want to add another physical machine, a SAN, and make the DC redundant.

So, this what I plan on setting up.

Install 2012 on second machine, install HA on current machine, make HA include both machine.

Add Hyper-V and DC Replica to clustering service.  Store Hyper-V machines on SAN.

Should we purchase 2012R2 with our current 2012?

Just looking for feedback and possible answers with current configs.

Thanks.

multiple excluded networks for a SoFS role - can it be done?

Setup:

Two 2012 R2 Heads, each with two onboard 1GB NICs and an adapter with two 10GB NICs. Each pair of same speed NICs are in a team.

H-V installed and two virtual switches created. One vSwitch has the 1GB team and the other vSwitch has the 10GB team

1GB vSwitch is connected to management/office VLAN with three vNICs (management, slow SMB 1{ssmb1} and ssmb2)

10GB vSwitch is connected to Storage VLAN and has six vNICs (Cluster, FSMB1 {fast SMB), FSMB2, FSMB3, FSMB4, Replication)

Cluster  vNIC is set to Cluster traffic only, Replication vNIC  is set to none, others are set to Cluster and Client traffic.

Two SoFS roles. One intended for H-V use and should only listen to FSMB* networks (FSMBSoFS) and one intended for Remote VHDX access and should only listen to SSMB* networks (SSMBSoFS).

I can isolate the FSMB and exclude the SSMB network for FSMBSoFS  but I can only exclude one of the FSMB networks from the SSMBSoFS. dealers choice which network and can change it, but only one at a time

I cant seem to add all four of the FSMB networks to the excludenetworks list so they show all in excludenetworks.

Did I hit a wall or am I doing the excluding wrong?

Command used:

$sfs = Get-ClusterResource "SSMBSoFS"
$sfs | Get-ClusterParameter
Set-ClusterParameter -InputObject $sfs -Name ExcludeNetworks -Value 08bd2a7c-e975-4909-89db-7db512c10042

I tried putting a comma on the end of the value and adding another network ID but that just causes an error.

Thanks for looking

Can't create new shares on File Share Cluster 2012R2

Hi,

I have a File Server Cluster in 2012 R2. Inside the cluster they are two File Server roles, let’s call them Share1 and Share2. I currently have two issues. The first one is that if I browse to Share2 I can see all the corresponded shares without any issue. If I browse Node2 of the cluster I can also see the corresponded shares from Share2. However, if I browse to Share1 I can see all the corresponded shares too but I can’t if browse to Node1. The second issue is that I can’t create new shares either on the cluster manager of the Server manager. I can still create shares at the folder level using Advance Sharing. I’m getting “Unable to retrieve all data needed to run the wizard. Error Details “Cannot retrieve information from server ‘Node1’ “. Error occurred during enumeration of NFS shares. Access denied I think that both issues are related and also I think that both are related to a security setting missing. Can someone point me to were to look?

Vendor trying to access our Shares.

Hi,

I have a vendor that is connected to our network by a VPN tunnel. He is not part of our domain at all. He's trying to map a drive with alternate credentials and it's failing. As part of troubleshooting I tried just to browse to my file share cluster with the NAT they have in place pointing to our Share File cluster and to my surprise when he try to browse to the Share file cluster, he's gets what it's share on the Node1 of the cluster. The network team verify that his NAT it's actually pointing to the IP of the share cluster. They even didn't have the IP of Node1 in their records. I need to know what's going on and how to give the vendor access to our share file cluster. It's not a permission issue since I tried to browse from his computer using my credentials.

Add File Server Role to Existing Hyper-V Cluster - Storage Query

$

Hi,

I have a W2012R2 Hyper-V cluster. Two nodes, 3 CSVs (one for each node and one quorum).

I'd now like to add the File Server role to the Cluster. I have no new storage to assign to this additional role so I'd like to simply utilise one of the existing CSVs. Is this possible, or does will the File Server cluster role require its own exclusive storage?

Thanks.

Dear Partner,

I have two servers 2008 R2 failover cluster Node1 and Node2 , We are missing Virtual Network adapter on Node1 (disappear)

Now I check in with below

Switch from registry path : HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VMSMP\Parameters\SwitchList  (registered )
Network adapter from registry path: HKLM \SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\ROOT\VMS_VSMP\     (not registered)

I want to added all missing network Network adapter from registry like below Screen shot

in node 2 because the failover cluster not working when shutdown Node1 the VMs not live migration to Node2

How resolve this issue.

Not able to Bring disk online

I have a cluster that server 2 which is using iscsi was disconnected by mistake. It was reconnected but I'm not able to bring the drives online.

I get and error from Virtual Disk Manager

The specified disk or volume is managed by the microsoft failover cluster component. The disk must be in the cluster maintenance mode and the cluster resource status must be online to perform this operation.

Cluster Disk 1 (Disk Witness in Quorum) Cluster Disk 2 (Cluster Shared Volumes) and CSVLUN1 are now all offline in my Disk management.

I put the CSVLUN1 in maintenance mode, but don't know where to set the cluster status to online...

Hi Team,

We are planning to build 10 VMs (5 set of cluster - 5 VM on single Hyper-v) on two physical hyper-v hosts. we are planning to go with CSV option (shared vhdx) to build this guest VM cluster. Can anyone let us know if we can split the guest VM disk i.e C drive vdhx will be residing on physical hyper-v host where as shared drive will be coming from CSV volume ?

For some unknown reason the clusterstorage showing the ownership was one of the vm node name instread of cluster group, how do i change the cluster storage ownership back to "clustergroup"?

Would it affect the vm that holds the ownership now?

Hello,

I have a 8 node cluster (W2K12R2) with Equallogic VSS service( EqlReqService.exe) on each node ( Dell PowerEdge M620) utilizing +/- 20Gb of memory. The only workaround i have is to restart the host or the service. Is there anyone who have came across this issue. My environment consist of Dell Blades (PoweEdge M620), Dell Equallogics storage array with three members (PS6110) and we also use backup exec 2014 to backup our systems.

Fail-over Cluster on 2 nodes using Windows Server 2012

$

Hello,

I would like to know if setting up a fail-over cluster on 2 nodes using windows server 2012 requires an existing domain controller or a work-group can be sufficient, and if a domain controller is mandatory is it required to have it on a third node? taking into consideration that i will use this cluster for hosting MS SQL Server database.

Thanks in advance.

Win 2012 R2 Cluster

I believe I am having issues with our cluster but not too sure. Things seem to work at a certain point but fail during a failover. So we have a two node cluster, we will call it MyCluster, with node1 and node2. This cluster is for a Service, and everything seems to work fine until I test failover.

I have an app on my machine, which I connect to the service by using the cluster name "MyCluster", as I always thought you should use the cluster name since you are unaware of the active node. If I restart the active node then my resource drive (E) and the quorum drive (Q) both move over to the passive node making it now the active node.

I can still use the app and connect using the cluster name, but only until node1 comes back online. At that time, the resource drive (E) moves back over to node1, but the quorum drive stays put. Once this happens I can no longer use the cluster name for the application because if I do, it points me to node2 but fails because the resource drive has moved back over to node1.

I have talked to server admin on this issue, and they said according to Microsoft, the quorum drive only moves once the one of the nodes goes completely down, but if comes back up isn't suppose to move back,

I have never setup a cluster before but have worked with them here and there, and was under the impression that all cluster resources should move together. I am misunderstanding something, or is there something not configured properly within the cluster?

Hyper-v Validation Report - VM Paths do not appear accessible to all nodes

$

We have a two node hyper-v cluster with a two node SOFS. When validating the cluster for our virtual machines we get the following in the report:
The following virtual machines have referenced paths that do not appear accessible to all nodes of the cluster. Ensure all storage paths in use by virtual machines are accessible by all nodes of the cluster.

It appears the opposite node that the VM is running on complains that the storage path cannot be accessed. However, I am able to live migrate the VM inside VMM without issue, when running the validation report again the other node claims it can not access the vm path. Permissions are set for both hosts to full.

Need a Guide for Creating WSFC Cluster on 2 x VM Nodes Using RDM Shared Disks

I can find info on how to do the cluster stuff on the Microsoft side.  I can also find info on RDM shared disks, controllers and sharing on the VMware side.  However, I can't find anything that tells me Microsoft recommendations, best practices or examples.  Bits here and bits there all over the web, but not complete.  My knowledge is intermediate and ok but I need help.  Please could someone link to an article that covers the whole thing ?

We have VMware ESXi / VSphere 5.5.2.  Looking to build a simple file cluster using two VM nodes, a single copy shared disk and Windows Server 2012 R2.

Connecting to a Hyper-V clustering CSV from any other server that is not cluster supported

I have a cluster of 8 servers connected to 3 CSV by way of iSCSI to a 3PAR SAN. The enviornment is a Hyper-V with 3 important servers that I need to get off and recover some place else. The host servers are currently offline and I can't get the host servers up due to a serious network outage. Is there a way to get these CSV volumes mounted to a another server and connect? I tried connecting to another server through iSCSI and once I mounted the volumes I noticed it came up as RAW. Is this what I'm going to face if I tried again to another server? Is there any other way around this?
