Is there a way with Windows Server 2012R2 to create a highly available iscsi storage cluster.
I am aware of how to cluster the iSCSI Target server role, however, that role relies on a shared external storage medium to enable and merely provides redundancy for the target service and not the storage itself.
I am looking for something that might replicate the data between 2 identical servers and then present the replicated data as a single iscsi storage target for use as the storage for a highly available hyper-v cluster.
Currently, I use Open-E for this type of setup, however, I am curious if these types of features can be enabled within windows 2012R2 with a combination of services.
Also, out of curiosity, if it is not possible (or if it is but not recommended as it is slow/unreliable/both), does anyone have preferences / opinions of open-E and other "iscsi software" products on the market?
