NFS as Storage of Failover Cluster

0

Hi,

I have two Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise which the failover cluster feature is installed on them. I created a cluster with them.

I have one more Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise which is functioning as a NFS server.

How can I define the NFS share (on the NFS server) to be the storage of my cluster??

thank you.

Manage 2012 cluster from 2008 R2

Hi all

I have a client who has a Windows 2008R2 functional level domain. They have Windows 2012 licences, but we don't want to upgrade to 2012 DC, etc just now. However, we want to convert their VMWare farm to HyperV 2012. The problem we have is that we cannot manage a 2012 cluster form 2008R2 server. Is there any way to get 2008 R2 to manage a Windows 2012 cluster? We would really rather leave the operational servers on 2008R2 now as many software vendors who have applications at this site are refusing to support the client if they upgrade to 2012.

We have rolled out several Hyper-V 2012 solutions now and we don't want to install HyperV 2008 R2 for obvious reasons.

Windows 2012 Cluster-Aware Updating Failure

0
0

I have a two Hyper-V guests that are in a failover file cluster role. During a cluster-aware updating run, the first node completed successfully and moved onto the second one. However while the second one was in the process of updating the hyper-v host that controls the first node, rebooted un-expectantly for updates, dropping the first node, which was in control at that time, offline. When it came back up, the cluster-aware console indicated the first one succeeded and the second node was canceled. Re-running the update process it gets canceled before it begins any thing. While trying to run a detailed report, from either node, via Powershell (get-caureport), I get an error saying, "Could not open cluster from the current computer: (Win32Exception) Access is denied" It won't even self-update.

The file cluster is still running, as I can access all the files in it.

Help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hyper-V Failover Clusters and NAS Storage

I am new to Failover Clusters and Storage so please indulge my ignorance.  Can a Hyper-V Failover Cluster be used on an iSCSI  NAS device?  I am setting one up in my lab environment and have researched SAN storage which is cost prohibitive.  Your help is appreciated.

Network issues in Failover Cluster

We have some intermittent problem by loosing the network connection. Says link down then and says

HP NC373i #48: The network link is down. Check to make sure the network cable is properly connected with EVENT ID 4.

Then after 3 or 4 seconds we getting this event

HP NC373i #48: Network controller configured for 1Gb full-duplex link with event ID 11

It is happening almost 2 times in a day.

This is in cluster environment so we have issues with cluster failover issues.

Any idea? We are using HP blade server bl460 g1 server in class c7000 enclosure. Also when I checked the NIC card the speed and duplex settings values are hardware default.

Pls help

2 node cluster downgrade to 1 node cluster question

First of all I want to say that I'm new to Windows Failover Clustering so forgive my inexperience. We had a 2 node cluster (Server 2008 R2 SP1 & SQL 2008 SP1) with SAN attached storage. The DBA's decided they didn't need the 2nd node of the cluster anymore, so they evicted it. I have evicted the unneeded node from the Windows cluster successfully. The thing is, this server has to be moved to a new SAN at a new data center. I've been told by the storage team that when the server gets moved to the new location they will not be providing LUNS for the Quorum or MSDTC. So my question is can we move the Quorum and MSDTC on the same local drive ? The server only has a C: drive. Is this possible or should we just reload the server without Failover Clustering and have the DBA's re-install SQL ?

Thank you,

David

Recurring 1196 - DNS timeout

0

I recently inherited a Server 2012 cluster and the event log shows 1196 errors about every 20-30 minutes going back for months.  The error says "failed registration of one or more associated DNS name(s) for the following reason:  This operation returned because the timeout period expired.

Now I'm new to MS clusters but I have a theory on what's causing this.

Under cluster networks I have Cluster Network 1, and Cluster Network 2.  Cluster Network 1 is our LAN.  Cluster Network 2 is our iSCSI network (storage only).  Under properties on Cluster Network 2 is has "Allow cluster network communications on this network" enabled with "Allow clients to connect through this network".

If it's trying to register the DNS name on the iSCSI network then it's no wonder it's timing out.  I'm not sure what the operational impact of switching that network to "Do not allow cluster network communication on this network" would be.

So is my theory plausible?  Is fixing my error as simple as disabling cluster communication on the iSCSI network?  Is there any way to get more information about what is happening from the error message?

Thanks!

Does the Virtual Server IP need to be in the same subnet as nodes and cluster

0
0

Scenario:

Node1 IP = 10.10.10.11

Node2 IP = 10.10.10.12

Cluster IP = 10.10.10.13

Default gateway IP = 10.10.10.1

Subnet = 255.255.255.0

Can I have Virtual Server Name IP not in 10.10.10.XXX subnet (e.g. 10.10.20.20)?  Since the default gateway will be different will that not cause issues?  This is in the same LAN.

CSV Redirect Mode when created

Hi

I'm creating a 2 Node Cluster 2008 R2 SP1 with ISCSI Storage

When creating my cluster the validation wizard finishes successfully with no warnings/errors.

ALL Networks and Storage appears in the Failover Cluster Manager

After I enable CSV and add a disk to be the CSV, it goes straight into redirect mode instantly. I can failover the disk to the other node and back but it will always stay in redirect mode. If I try and take it out of redirect mode I get "this operation has failed" Error Code 0x800713b8

I've read this back to front and didn't find any errors in event logs, vss shadows or filefilters

http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2010/12/16/troubleshooting-redirected-access-on-a-cluster-shared-volume-csv.aspx

I've also removed McAfee agent completely.

All LUNS are NTFS & GPT

I have my Storage network on a Private IP Range and VLAN. I've tried to keep it simple and only have 1 physical nic connecting to the storage through ISCSI. Eliminating any problems with teams and MPIO DSM. The Storage is a Netapp FAS2020 Data ONTAP 7.3.6

I get these 3 Logs appearing in Cluster.log consistently when I try to bring the CSV "Cluster Disk 2" out of redirect mode:

0000036c.000025e4::2012/01/19-01:06:38.668 ERR   [RES] Physical Disk: Failed to get partition size, status 3

Windows 2008 R2 Clustering disk management shows unallocated disk on inactive node

0

Hi All,

I'm new to clustering. We have got two Windows 2008 R2 cluster nodes which runs applications and services. And the active node has drives C(OS), D(for other purpose), E (SQL DB), F (SQL Logs) and G (SQL Backup), where as the inactive node has only C and D drive.

The Inactive node shows the disk as "Reserved" "Unallocated" and has only C and D drive showing up on the disk manager, is the default behavior of inactive node?

Please let me know if you need more information.

Thanks,

Arun

Windows Server 2012 failover Cluster & NFS storage

Hi all,

i'm trying to build a Windows Server 2012 Failover cluster.

As shared storage I want to use an NFS volume which is exported from a netapp.
On both the windows servers, I've installed the NFS Client and have mounted the drive under the letter Q.

I then created the cluster.

This got created succesfully, but I got a warning that stated the following: No appropriate disk could be found for the quorum disk.

I now was wondering:

My cluster has been succesfully created, where is my quorum?
Is NFS supported to host the clusterstorage on?

How can I add the NFS share as cluster storage?

Many thanks in advance!

Hi

I am trying to find out some general information about how to setup and ADFS farm (two servers) using WID and Microsoft NLB together.

One point is not clear, when do one actually set up NLB and when the ADFS first and second server in which sequence ?

Thanks for your help,

Hyper-v Virtual Machine running Server 2012 is non-responsive after live migration via Failover Cluster Manager

I am running SCVMM 2008 R2 on Server 2008 R2 Boxes.  I built a virtual machine running Server 2012.  After live migration of the Hyper-V virtual machine, the Server 2012 Hyper-V machine is non-responsive, meaning not accessible, however it shows that it's running, but doesn't respond to ping or ctrl+alt+del.  If I stop and start the VM, the server is responsive again.  I can replicate the problem.  I have installed KB2636573 recently in hopes of fixing this problem.

Shadow Copies missing after failover on 2008 R2 cluster...

Hi.

We have a 2 node 2008 R2 failover cluster with a File server on it.
I have enabled shadow copies for our main data disk (E:) and have the storage area for it on another volume (F:).
Both volumes are on separate disks. This was the recommended setup in the help file if I understood it correctly that is...

Shadow copies seems to work fine and I can restore files from several dates back but after a failover to another node I lose all history.
After the failover the shadow copies seems to begin from scratch again.

Am I doing something wrong or is there some way around this? Shadow copies is a nice feature for end users and I prefer to have it enabled for easy restore but it´s sad to loose all history when changing nodes...

Thanks in advance for any insight :)

Clustered storage Space + near-line SAS or SAS JBOD

Hello everybody,

This is probably a stupid question but I haven't found a definitive answer anywhere.

Clustered storage pools seems to be supported only with SAS disks (No SATA / USB Disks / Whatever) and this is OK for me but in which category are near-line SAS disks? Are they considered as SAS disks and are they supported for a clustered storage space?

Same question for a SAS JBOD. What happens if you have for example a "DataON DNS-1640D" JBOD which is certified for Windows 2012 storage space?

http://www.dataonstorage.com/storage-resource/windows-server-2012-storage-spaces.html

Is the SAS controller of the JBOD enough for Windows 2012 to consider it as acceptable for a clustered storage space EVEN if it is populated with SATA disks?

Must it also be populated exclusively with near-line SAS or SAS disks (Or even only SAS disks)?

Thank you for your help.

Breaks, up to 7 days inside cluster logs in Windows Server 2008 R2 Failover Cluster ?

Hi Gurus,

we are using a 2 Node and Disk Majority Oracle and SAP w2k8r2 Failover Cluster. If I analyze the cluster logs there are breaks up to 7 days. Does someone know why such long breaks occurs ? The Core Cluster Group is online and functioning as well as the oracle and sap groups.

I would really appreciate your tips and help.

With kind regards,

CSV online (no access)

We have a HP P2000 G3 SAN and have 2 Servers running WS2012.  I have configured Failover clustering and Presented one of the LUNS usning iSCSI to one of the servers to start.

I have then configured that disk as a CSV, it goes online but then immediately changes to online (no access)

the ClusterStorage folder in c: is there but the subfolders are not created and I can not add the VHDX files and appropraite folders to this volume as there is insufficient space on the c: ie the cluster is not available.

Would appreciate any thoughts or advice on this.

What happens to cluster node's in-memory data after failover

0

Hello,

I am doing read-write operations in multiple files from a client system on a SMB share, which is configured on a Failover Cluster FileServer. If I fail the owning node, data written just before the incident is missing after failover to other node.

I have been trying various options -  Windows 2008 R2, Windows 2012 both Cluster. Also tried Graceful reboot or shutdown of owning node or just right click and failover to other node . I also used SMB's "Continous Available" option. Different Shared Storage, Disabling Write-caching on the shared storage side also did not help - In every case, I see this data integrity issue.

Is there anything that I am missing.

Thanks in Advance.

Thanks & Regards,
